Introducing Wiggle Bunny!
Thursday, November 6, 2008

Wiggle Bunny is complete and now for sale in my etsy shop. He’s so cute and weird. I love him!

(Wiggle Bunny is not actually very wiggly.)

And here’s me in my completed Halloween costume. I was Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica, but I think all of two people at the party figured that out. Neeeeeerd.

I got a little crafty with my costume too - I made the dog tag out of Shrinky Dinks! I think it ended up being the neatest part of the whole ensemble.

New plushie in the works and a costume sneak peek
Friday, October 31, 2008

Last night after Design Fundamentals, three of my classmates came over to my place for a craft night. Obviously, it was AWESOME. I got to show Alex how to make softies and give tips on sewing and such. Next time they want me to teach the art of Shrinky Dinks! I love having artistic friends with great senses of humor. I feel so in my element and comfortable around them.

Here is the softie I started working on last night. I call him: “Wiggle Bunny”

Today is my most favorite holiday and tonight I venture down to San Francisco for some good times with friends (and hopefully a visit to the Castro District). Here’s a sneak peek at my costume. Can you guess what it is?

…I don’t know why this picture makes my arm look like a sausage…

Why I’m glad I don’t own a car
Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Immediately after this post, I intend to take a nice, long three-hour nap.

Today began for me at 4AM when I had to get up to drive Nick to the airport. Nobody’s idea of a good time, but I do what I can to be a good girlfriend, and to steal his car for a few days. Our trip was destined for disaster, however, when along Highway 113, the car suddenly started making loud clunking noises. We pulled over ASAP and opened the doors to the pungent smell of burning rubber. The back tire had exploded on us! Luckily, the sides of the tire were still intact, so the brake hub (I think that’s what it’s called) didn’t hit the ground and send sparks flying. Nick was able to jack up the car and attach the spare tire by cell phone light, provided by yours truly, which was about the only help I could give. I’m so useful! In the end, Nick made his flight on time, and I got back home in one piece. I hope that’s the last time I get an adrenaline high at 4 in the morning.

I got a measly three hours of sleep last night, plus an hour and a half of math class this morning, which definitely counts as negative sleep. That brings be to just about crazy o’clock if I don’t get my nap on ASAP. Nighty night!

Apple Hill
Sunday, October 19, 2008

Today, Nick and I made the 45-minute trek from Davis to Apple Hill. It’s essentially an orchard strip-mall near Camino, California, with over 50 orchards and wineries in one tiny town. The place we went to, Rainbow Orchards, had the usual tasties: caramel apples, cider, pie, and the one that got away: apple cider donuts. I’m still a little sad about missing out on the donuts. Once Nick and I had our fill of treats, we walked around the orchard a bit and we snapped a few polaroids.

I don't know if the trees in Northern California get much more color than this in the fall. But this was a gorgeous row, away from the bustling crowds.

I got a bunch of prinkers on my pants while climbing onto this rusty tractor contraption and then spent five minutes pulling them off.

Indie rock plush

I’ve seen stop motion music videos before, but never one made completely out of plushies! Guster’s “One Man Wrecking Machine” is totally and adorably awesome. Even the crafts get crafty!

The plushies are made by Monster Factory, a team of three designers specializing in character development, illustration and the plush monsters. You can even purchase a monster of your very own on their website. It’s my new favorite band and website all in one!

Kyle the Monsternaut, my favorite of the plushies.
